Today was mostly a day to relax and recoup. Since tomorrow will be our first day of Japanese class, we wanted to study a bit to do well in the entrance test. As well, tomorrow will be our "Local Orientation Day" where we will get a bank account, fill out various paperwork, get our sim cards, and explore the city a bit. So taking the day off from anything "exciting" sounded like a good idea.
So I'll just share some interesting things.
In Japan, they take their plastic recycling pretty seriously. In Canada, there's the "Blue Bin" for any plastic / metal / glass, that's all split up in Japan.
Separate bins for Metal and Glass
Plastics are split into "Plastic Bottles" and "Not Plastic Bottles"
And a final bin for "Combustibles". Anything that can be burned (food, paper, cardboard) goes into this bin, presumably to be burned.
While shopping today, Marlena started looking at the school backpacks, so I did as well.
These are the standard school backpacks, very sturdy! They also have some nice padding on the back, and look well built.
But the price is insane! The cheapest one in the picture is 57,000 Yen (~$570 CAD)!! Apparently kids will use this bag throughout almost all of their schooling, and it tends to be a gift when they start school. They do look good, but that's a lot of money to spend on a backpack
